Nice Classification and Trademark Classes in India

1. The Nice Classification System

The Nice Classification is an international classification of goods and services applied for the registration of marks. It divides items into 45 distinct classes: Classes 1 to 34 cover manufactured goods, while Classes 35 to 45 cover services.

Securing a trademark in Class 9 (software/electronics) does not automatically prevent someone from using the same name in Class 25 (clothing), unless your mark is declared a 'well-known mark' under Indian law.
